Carcavelos Beach Lisbon
With 300 days of sunshine per year in Lisbon, it is good to know that you can enjoy those days on a beach. While the city itself does not have beach, a good one is not far away.
Head to the train station of Cais Sodre, and hop on a 20 min train ride to Carcavelos, the locals favorite beach with lots to offer. Going to the beach is a great way to spend some time while you are in Lisbon enjoying your weekend.
It is a relatively large beach so close to Lisbon. Surfers, Wind Surfers and Bodyboarders can be spotted on this beach searching for good waves. Just watching them is an experience of its own.
Surrounding the beach, there is a pedestrian area full of restaurants, coffee shops and bars where you can enjoy the sun and just simply – stare at the sea. If you are hungry, try one of the following.
Capricciosa is a italian restaurant offering pizzas baked in a wood fired oven, pastas and other delicious dishes. Your pizza will be served with something special — the view! The restaurant faces the beach and has a large terrace for you to enjoy.
Grande Onda, which mean the big wave is another sea front restaurant waiting to fill your belly. The interior design reflects the location – beach, sea, sand. Its esplanade overlooking the ocean and a chilled music offers a great setting to enjoy moments with your friends. On the beach, they have prepared a chill out area perfect to watch the sunset with a drink of your choice.
If you are thirsty, you will find plenty of bars on the beach, where you can take your shoes off and enjoying the warmth of the sand. Head to Bar Dos Gemeos, its cozy interior lined with wood and a terrace on the beach will only improve your summer days. This bars prides itself as an example of education and ecological awareness as it selectively collects waste and then sends it back for recycling.
If you are looking for something more active, this is also a perfect place. There are many surf schools offering surfing lessons all year round. Additionally, there is a volleyball net where you can play a game of beach valley with your group of friends.
